Every time we see Shigeru Miyamoto on-screen these days, he always somehow seems to sneakily insert Pikmin into his presentations—and none of us are complaining!
While nothing of significance occurred for Pikmin in today's Nintendo Direct (not that we were expecting literally anything to begin with), the latest Super Mario Galaxy Movie presentation did include a name-drop.
Right before Mr. Miyamoto says goodbye (seven minutes into this short Direct), he reminds viewers to check out the Nintendo Today! app on smartphone devices and watch the "Pikmin Close to You" videos from last month on it. If you haven't seen it yet today, check out The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct here:
While the pair of Pikmin Close to You videos have absolutely nothing to do with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, both projects do involve Mr. Miyamoto and Nintendo Pictures. Nintendo has been pushing for viewers to join the Nintendo Today! app, so the closing remarks from Miyamoto here are no shocker.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases this April, and we think there might be a chance Pikmin could be teased in the film. In the original Super Mario Galaxy game for Nintendo Wii, players traverse across a Hocotate Ship in Space Junk Galaxy. There is also always a chance Nintendo could pull a Pixar and add a quick Pikmin short movie before the film starts.
Hopefully Pikmin will make some sort of cameo in the movie! Perhaps even one day we will have a Pikmin movie to look forward to.... we would also settle for more short movies.
